He probably will relish the ability to push for greater laws on crowd control with facial recognition when the local community react to racist taunts and aggressions from Maccabi fans. It will also help him to claim islamic factions in society as the aggressors to this poor, innocent little Israeli football team that everyone wants in their cities ;) Starmer proving his value to the Israel lobby once again.

I seem to recall that his wife is Jewish. Perhaps that has something to do with Starmers support for the Team from Telaviv

Morag's avatar

I think it’s more that his wife is a Zionist rather than Jewish.

Jennifer Akdemir's avatar

Indeed - there are prominent Jews and many others who are appalled by the behaviour of the State of Israel.

Jennifer Akdemir's avatar

And that the Zionists, courtesy of the U.S.A., have deep pockets, and he doesn't want to miss out on that......

Helen Trainor's avatar

Starmer has said in an interview with Labour Friends of Israel, that his family here in the UK and his extended family in Israel, are Zionists and he supports them. Remember this is the 'Human rights lawyer' who said Israel has the right to cut off water, electricity and all supplies to Gaza...

He looks very Grey. He is frightened of Trump and Netanyahu. He got into power by smearing Corbyn as antisemitic so he's got to stay with that narrative or collapse like last week's soggy pud.

I doubt Starmer is that important ....

Jennifer Akdemir's avatar

He's an odd-looking man. His nose goes one way and his mouth another. Did he get beaten up by Zionists at school? He also permanently looks as though he's been caught doinng something he shouldn't.

Helen Trainor's avatar

Well that's true, he's been caught playing at being a Prime Minister.... 😂

Umi Sinha's avatar

He seems determined to dig his own political grave. Hard to know why the Jewish issue is so desperately important to him, and why he thinks, as a democratically elected leader, it’s ethical to use his power to pursue his own personal agenda in the face of massive public opposition. And to commit war crimes and genocide in our name to do so. No wonder he and Trump are having a bromance.

Cindy Bryant's avatar

So is the ban still going ahead or has Starmer sneakingly and definitively imposed his authoritarian rule over Midlands police?

I am so glad it was the first time I never voted labour. Labour is just another Tory party and not even trying to disguise the fact any longer. I'm disgusted at their complicity with Israel and their sending weapons and spy planes to help slaughter innocent Palestinians.

I can't wait for all complcit MPs to be investigated in their acceptance of Israeli blood money to do as they say and not working for us the UK citizens.

Starmer should be minimising the potential damage to the British economy when the US AI bubble eventually bursts. Clinging to the British Empire mindset will make the fallout worse.

Jennifer Akdemir's avatar

The entire British ruling class is infected with that one. Perhaps Keir is insecure about his place in it - son of a toolmaker and all that.

USA electricity price is 19c/kWh, and they complain, my electricity price is 2.5 times that when converted to $US. Supporting Ukraine costs far more than the price of weapons; sanctioning Russia and China just raises the cost of everything. This is the situation before the bubble bursts, I don't want to think what it will be like afterwards..

"Free" market capitalism is going to crash. It is an untenable system getting the poor to fund the rich. We are headed for social breakdown.

Ben Oldfield's avatar

Starmer has been bought by Israel

George Peel's avatar

Yes, but - that's all very well - I want to know what happened about the Chinese spies. Meeow!

Matt Szabo's avatar

I've heard it said that Tommy Robinson is a Mossad 'plant'. Might be conspiracy theory nonsense, maybe not.

Jennifer Akdemir's avatar

If it isn't true, why was he released from court to fly to Israel....?

Perhaps Maccabi Tel Aviv needed their very own 'super-fan' (aside from 'super-fan' Keir Starmer) at short notice?

Thomas Cleary's avatar

It’s very likely Starmer is just a talking head for Tony Blair who is really the power behind the PM.

Jennellhartnann's avatar

According to one of our neighbours, a very nice and helpful Muslim, the idea behind Starmer’s stance is that the Israeli fans will riot and attack Muslims, and if Muslims retaliate even slightly, he will blame them for all the trouble.

Jennifer Akdemir's avatar

Thus necessitating even more authoritarian controls. Sounds very plausible.

Matthew Rampley's avatar

And yet, plenty of people on here have complained about anti-semitism in the decision.

Simply monstruous... alas typical .
