Rachel Reeves is such a liar
Rachel Reeves repeatedly lied about her past work experience, lies about the economy, and lies to accuse others of the antisemitism she's fine with when it comes from her politcal heroine Nancy Astor.
Rachel Reeves has been caught out lying on her CV again! It’s extraordinary how many lies she tells about her past work experience.
In 2021 Reeves Tweeted a link to an interview with herself in which she claimed that "I spent a decade working as an economist at the Bank of England and loved it".
In 2024 she claimed in a speech that she "spent the best part of a decade as an economist at the Bank of England", and a Labour Party document also repeated this same lie about her experience.
Reeves’ LinkedIn CV didn’t match her repeated claims to have worked at the BoE for a decade or so, saying that she worked there from September 2000 until December 2006. This was also a lie because she left in March 2006.
It turns out that she spent less than six years at the BoE, and a full year of that was spent away on paid study, which hardly qualifies as "a decade", but the lies about her previous experience don’t stop there.
Last year Reeves was caught lying on her CV that she’d worked as an economist at HBOS. In fact she worked in Retail Banking. This lie was quietly edited out of her CV and then forgotten about.
Despite being caught lying about her career at HBOS once already, she continued with her lies by exaggerating how long she’d worked there, pretending that she stayed until December 2009, when she was actually made redundant in March 2009.
Keir Starmer sent out a spokesperson to try and diffuse the scandal over Reeves litany of lies about her past work experience, and they tried to brush it off by insinuating that it’s irrelevant because it happened "before she was the chancellor".
Yes, the work experience she was lying about happened before she was chancellor, but that’s barely worth stating, it’s the lies she she kept telling about her past work experience that people are criticising her over, and she maintained these lies throughout her time as Starmer’s shadow chancellor, and into her time as chancellor.
The spokesperson continued by insisting that "the prime minister is very clear that what is most important is having a chancellor who is able to balance the books and who is able to be straight with the public and restore the public finances."
Who on earth would trust Reeves to be "straight with the public" given her litany of lies about her past experience?
And then there’s the fact that Reeves outright refuses to be straight with the public about the public finances anyway.
You can’t claim to be being honest about the public finances if you’ve had the Institute of Fiscal Studies accuse you of engaging in a "conspiracy of silence" over your plans for the economy.
You can’t claim to be being honest about the public finances if you launch another ruinous round of austerity cuts and insist that it doesn’t count as austerity this time because you’ve changed the name of what you’re doing from "austerity" to "efficiency savings".
You can’t claim to be honest about restoring the public finances when you openly state that you’re engaged in a "book balancing" exercise. Public finances simply don’t work like the books of a small business or household, and anyone who implies that they do is spreading economically illiterate fairy stories.
Reeves doesn’t just limit her dishonesty to lies about her past work experience, and lies about the economy, she also likes to lie about other people.
One of her most egregious lies was the claim that Jamie Driscoll was purged from the ballot to stand for Mayor of the North East because he supposedly "shared a platform with people who had been expelled from the Labour Party for antisemitism" when in reality Starmer’s goons used his appearance at a film festival alongside celebrated film director Ken Loach as an excuse to block him, purely because he was from the Labour left they were (and are) fighting a bitter factional battle with.
It’s absurd that Reeves thought she had a leg to stand on when it came to falsely accusing others of antisemitism, given that she dedicated so much effort to celebrating and sanitising the political record Nancy Astor, who was one of Britain’s most hateful and notorious antisemites.
The reason Reeves thinks she can get away with such serial dishonesty is that she’s never held to account for it. Neither is her party leader Starmer, who lied his way into the Labour leadership, then lied his way into Downing Street too.
They’re by no means unique either. Boris Johnson was such an inveterate liar it’s barely worst stating; Cameron and Osborne lied repeatedly (remember their false promises not to raise VAT before the 2010 election?); and Tony Blair lied us into the illegal and immoral invasion of Iraq.
There’s a culture of impunity in this country for political liars, and Reeves is well aware of it. She knows that the worst she’s ever likely to face is a few negative headlines and awkward questions, then it’s back to telling even more barefaced lies to the public.
In conclusion Reeves is a liar who lied about her past work experience before and during her time as chancellor; misleads the public about her economic agenda; and smears others with accusations of Jew-hate despite having repeatedly celebrated the political record of one of Britain’s worst Jew-haters!
You’d have to be profoundly gullible to accept anything she says at face value.
Are there any honest politicians at all? Lying and cheating seems to be the modus operandi in politics and business. Politicians and corporate CEOs should be required to take lie detector tests and psychological evaluations before they are hired. Corruption is drowning us.
These are the people who told us how bad Jeremy Corbyn was.... Move along people nothing to be seen here
