Who owns it now?
When the Tories privatised our national infrastructure and services they pretended that government is too inefficient to run these things properly, but now they're being run by foreign governments!
As they were flogging off our vital national infrastructure and services on the cheap, the Tories insisted that government is too inefficient to run these things properly.
However over the following years the Westminster establishment cabal have allowed numerous foreign governments to buy up massive stakes in the stuff they flogged off because we were supposedly incapable of running it ourselves.
British rail
The privatisation of British rail has been a disaster.
It now costs far more in subsidies to run the rail network than the entire cost of operating British Rail before privatisation; the profiteering train leasing companies caused the death of UK train manufacturing by not ordering any new trains at all for the first three years after privatisation; fares have soared above inflation for decades; commuter services are overcrowded; rail in the north is an absolute joke; the track operator has built up a massive £59 billion black hole of debt by leasing the tracks out to the franchise profiteers at way below cost; and multiple franchises have now fallen under the control of the state rail companies of overseas governments.
The Westminster establishment cabal insisted that the UK government is unfit to run the railways for the benefit of the British people and the British economy, yet they’re entirely happy with the governments of Italy, Hong Kong, Germany, and France buying up stakes in our privatised rail franchises in order to extract profits for the benefit of their own citizens back home!
It’s a bizarre ideological mess, and it’s far from the only one.
British Energy
When the Tory government decided to privatise the UK energy generation market in the 1990s, they flogged off Britain’s entire fleet of nuclear reactors at a tiny fraction of what they actually cost to build.
The new private owners soon realised that they’d make more profit by selling Britain’s nuclear generation capacity to the government of France (in the guise of EdF) than they would by actually operating the power stations themselves, so that’s what they did. And the Westminster establishment cabal signed off on it.
If a political party had ever run an election campaign promising to hand Britain’s nuclear power plants to the French government, they’d have been annihilated at the polls, but between them, the Tories and Labour allowed it to happen through the back door.
And now it’s been done, they’re both absolutely determined to keep things the way they are!
Flogging off our nuclear expertise to the French government left us without the ability to build new nuclear facilities for ourselves, so when David Cameron’s government decided we needed a new nuclear power plant at Hinkley Point C, he ended up bribing the governments of France and China to build it for us by promising that UK energy customers would pay them double the market rate for the electricity it produces for 35 years.
The maddest thing about this situation is that when sane people say our vital national energy infrastructure needs to be brought back under British control, to be run for the benefit of the British people and the British economy, we are the ones who get pilloried as if we’re the raving ideological extremists!
British Leyland
Once upon a time there was a British-owned car company that produced well over 30% of the vehicles sold in the UK, and much like the French did with their car companies, the British government took it under public control.
But then along came Margaret Thatcher who decided to deliberately underfund it, destroying development of the modern range of cars it needed to remain competitive, before flogging the wreckage off to a bunch of private profiteers.
After several rounds of downscaling and asset-stripping by various different private owners, the last remnants went bust in 2005.
Several of the brands this company produced still exist:
Jaguar-Landrover is now owned by the Indian conglomerate Tata; BMW kept the profitable Mini marque after their disastrous stint in charge of Britain’s main car manufacturer; and the iconic British sports car brand MG ended up owned by the Chinese government.
Britain’s car manufacturing industry was smashed to pieces, with all of the few surviving bits eventually falling under overseas ownership.
Margaret Thatcher couldn’t abide the idea of a government-backed British-owned car manufacturer, so she let private profiteers reduce it to ruins, but somehow everyone’s now fine with the Chinese government operating one of the last remaining pieces!
Meanwhile the French government retains significant stakes in Peugeot (Stellantis) and Renault, which are the 4th and 9th largest car manufacturers on the planet, which just goes to show what is possible when a government supports their own car industry, rather than deliberately killing it, and then feeding the corpse to a bunch of capitalist vultures.
Water Authorities
Another ideologically driven privatisation, another disaster story.
Since water privatisation in 1989 the owners have extracted an astonishing £72 billion in profits, and built up £54 billion in debts, whilst systematically neglecting investment and maintenance to such an extent that our rivers and coastal waters are pumped full of raw sewage.
What’s less well known is that amongst all of the capitalist water profiteers, multiple foreign governments have also taken stakes in England’s privatised water companies to use for profit extraction purposes.
It’s beyond absurd that the Westminster establishment cabal believe that the UK government is unfit to run England’s water supply, but that the governments of Australia, Canada, Kuwait, Norway, Malaysia, Qatar, Singapore, and the UAE are.
Both Labour and the Tories are ideologically committed to keeping this absurd situation as it is, rather than doing the sensible thing and bringing it back under British public ownership.
Economic treason
Thanks to the treasonous ideological agenda of the Westminster establishment cabal our trains are operated by the governments of France, Italy, Germany, and Hong Kong; our nuclear power plants are operated by the government of France; our most famous sports car brand is owned by the government of China; and our water supply is managed by the governments of Australia, Canada, Kuwait, Norway, Malaysia, Qatar, Singapore and the UAE!
We owned and operated literally all of these things for ourselves before privatisation mania.
They were taken off us, given away to private profiteers at bargain basement prices, and then eventually ended up in the hands of overseas governments.
Thus the Westminster establishment cabal clearly believe in public ownership after all, as long as the owners are not British.
In any sane country the media would make the likes of Rishi Sunak and Keir Starmer explain why they believe that Britain is unfit to run our trains, water supply, energy market, etc for ourselves, but the governments of France, China, Singapore, Kuwait, Italy, Canada, Germany, Mayalsia etc are.
But in this ridiculous country, they get a total free pass every time.
And what’s most infuriating of all is that the treasonous political class outright refuse to admit that they did anything wrong in giving away control of our vital infrastructure, services, and industries to the governments of other countries, and instead insist that we’re the ideological extremists for objecting to what they did!
According to themselves, and their capitalist media cheerleaders, they’re sane and sensible for letting foreign governments run our vital infrastructure and services for profit-extraction purposes, and we’re a bunch of mad, dangerous, lunatic leftists for saying that what they’ve done is absurd, and that our vital infrastructure and services should actually be run by the British, for the good of the British people and the British economy!
It’s bizarre that so much of what you’ve written about how the country’s infrastructure should be run and maintained by and for the benefit of the British public is essentially the entire argument the Tories used to persuade us to vote for Brexit! It’s apparently absolutely fine for foreign governments and private companies to benefit financially from our essential services but we must have control over our laws and borders. Stupid doesn’t even cover it.
I know this sounds like a conspiracy theory but it looks like the Kremlin have infiltrated our government since Johnson was bought, sorry brought to power?
Feel free to say I’m talking bollo*#s
