He is trying to get the country taken over, don’t do it, Russia and China are big threats, and Russia has got a taste for war! πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈπŸ€¬πŸ˜‘β˜ΉοΈπŸ˜–πŸ˜€

Russia's been bogged down with their botched invasion of Eastern Ukraine for literally years, and that's on a flat plain right next to them!

China hasn't launched an invasion of anywhere, not even Taiwan, which they're much more keen on taking over than the US.

Even if you add their military spending together, it's still dwarfed by the US alone.

We need to keep a sense of perspective.

In what way is Russia's invasion of Ukraine way "botched"? Russia has all but defeated the might of the US empire.

Another thing to consider:

Can you even imagine the howling vortex of condemnation from Republicans and the right-wing press if Obama or Biden had just casually tossed out the idea of slashing US military expenditure by half?

You know there was an Intermediate range Nuclear Forces Treaty signed in 1987 by Reagan and Gorbachev, withdrawn in 2018 by Trump because he said Russia violated it? I wouldn't be surprised if John Bolton pressured Trump into doing that. Now that people like Bolton have been chucked out, there's a chance that a 50% cut in military expenditure by all parties is achievable. Who is going to tell Britain and the EU?

Sounds good to me. Probably too good to be true.

Trump is always about the art of the deal. Halving defence budgets will adversely impact Russia and China as the USA's budget is so huge. The only way this would work fairly is a proportional system based upon individual types of arms from nuclear through to drones, missiles, tanks, bombs etc.

I would suggest that it is also a big signal to Europe that the US is no longer interested in protecting Europe and we had better increase our spending to fill the gap. NATO is not of interest to Trump.

If I was Putin or Xi, I wouldn't believe a word of it. America is renowned for reneging on their 'deals'. Just ask the native Americans.

I think we should be careful about dismissing this entirely. Zelensky has just urged Europe to form it's own army, bluntly stating that Trump is about to hang Europe out to dry.
