If we want the Guardian to die, we should do this by building a better alternative. If we just let it die without having an alternative, it is unlikely that the organization that will grab our attention instead will be better for us.
I agree with your criticism of the Guardian. But I am also convinced that it would be bad for us if it died. The world is a network. The Guardian subnetwork still allows reasonable people to do reasonable things. If you take the Guardian subnetwork out, who will fill the void? I believe the chances are that what we get will be much worse.
I finally gave up The Guardian in 2017 after being a loyal reader for 50 years (it was recommended to us by one of the rare liberal-ish teachers we had). Like the organisation now trading under the name "Labour Party", how do you keep something alive in order to reform it, without actually supporting it (and therefore encouraging to remain the same)? I genuinely don't know.
The Guardian is the guardian for left wing discourse, presenting an appearance of progressive socialist views, but failing people where it matters, and always pro-establishment when it comes to foreign policy.
It would be a loss if it went in the sense that it would be one news outlet gone, but when it has proven itself again and again to be working against the left, I feel only but joy to learn it is slowly moving further toward collapse.
Re. Social Media: The cool people are on the Fediverse. No shadow banning there.
Great article. I hate the Guardian and have boycotted it for years. Smug, smart-arse commentators with no awareness of the real world. Would love to dance on its grave.
England should just sink beneath the waves. Their time was over long ago. Now they couldn’t even deploy an Infantry Division if they had to.
I lost track of the articles about the Ukraine war written by egomaniacal British generals with at least four names, in which they asserted that the Russians would drop their weapons and flee for their lives when they saw their first Challenger Tank.
It wasn’t the Russians fleeing for their lives. Nor was it the Brits, because those Twits can’t even deploy the titular Infantry Division to Ukraine without recruiting women to fight.
The Allies had to bail them out in both World Wars, and their recent attempt to send a warship out to sea was a complete failure because the propeller assembly was not properly maintained.
The sun has set on the British Empire. Good riddance.
Fucking hope so... Sold Assange down the river, batted against Corbyn and McDonald, North London Zionists with 'what do we know on day 641 of our bribed Zionist opinions?' A motley crew, fully engaged in the dumb down Britain campaign... To hell with all mainstream media. I just go to it for admission by omission nowadays... Rod back etc...
I stopped reading The Grauniad about 15 years ago. It was becoming more and more establishment right wing, and I hated the shift towards supporting the zionist entity. It used to be a good, reliable paper, but it became more and more something for the self-satisfied pseudo-concerned suburban middle classes. BTW, it’s great to see you here AAV!
I had noticed they - The Guardian - had dropped their little liberal homily, 'Comment is Free - Facts are Sacred!' I suspect that was more to do with advertising standards, than any residual liberal integrity.
They undermined Corbyn when he had huge democratic support and despite always claiming to be great investigative journalists they didn’t even try to get to the bottom of what was really going on in the Labour Party at that time. Many of their articles are now trite and obviously written by interns for no money.
You can help to further the demise of the Guardian and still read its content by inserting "dump" at the start of any URL that points to its site - the added benefit being you don't see the advertising banners either.
The Guardian deserves to die. Once a shining beacon of journalism, now a cesspool of establishment tropes.
The only Americans I know who rely on it are all members in good standing of the Democrat Cult.

There's no alternative to 'the same'... Viner et al sold out. Ignore all MSM.

'Left wing'? Chortle... Allowing conversation within a decreasing bracket, I think you mean.
I didn't mean the Guardian was left wing; I meant they are the guardians of left wing discourse.
And they do that, as you say, by only 'allowing conversation within a decreasing bracket.'

The Russian allies bailed the world out in WW2, 25 million Russians died so Britain could become a US vassal state

Sadly, I agree with every word.
