Labour don't even mention Diane Abbott as they try to monetise her abuse
Instead of showing any real solidarity to Diane Abbott after the Tories' biggest donor said she should be killed, the Labour Party are using the scandal to score political points and grift donations
Labour have absolutely shamed themselves with their response to the Tory’s biggest donor spewing racist abuse at Diane Abbott and saying she should be killed.
First we had to watch the nauseating spectacle of Keir Starmer and Rishi Sunak using the scandal to score political points off each other while the Speaker refused to let Diane Abbott even speak at all, and now we find out that Labour have been using the abuse she suffered to try to grift donations without even mentioning her name.
Here’s what they’ve been sending out:
The fact they don’t mention Diane Abbott’s name isn’t the only problem with these emails either.
The Labour Party shouldn’t be calling for the Tories to give Frank Hester back the money, because that amounts to a huge financial reward for him saying an MP should be killed. They should be following the Green Party’s lead and calling for the money to be given to anti-racism charities and community projects.
The claim that Labour’s campaign relies on small donations is extremely deceptive. It used to be that way under Jeremy Corbyn’s leadership as he tried to build a popular mass movement, but Starmer and his Labour right backers have delighted in driving traditional Labour supporters away in their droves ('leave if you don’t like it') in order to court wealthy capitalist donors.
Despite the decision to hide the big money donations that bankrolled Keir Starmer’s deceptive leadership campaign, they’ve made no secret of sucking up to mega-rich donors ever since.
Is it any surprise that Starmer’s leadership election "pledges" (raising taxes on the rich, increasing corporation tax, nationalising core infrastructure and services, improved workers’ rights, opposition to NHS privatisation, etc) have been completely scrapped or severely watered down as the £millions in donations from mega-rich capitalists have come flooding in?
Labour’s treatment of Diane Abbott has been despicable.
Yes she wrote a horrifically worded letter to the Guardian which deserved the criticism it got, but she quickly apologised and clarified what she was intending to say, which was actually a fair point about black and Asian people often being the most visible targets for racist abuse.
Compare Abbott’s ongoing 11 month suspension with the absolute lack of disciplinary measures against the Labour right party insiders who bullied and abused her (see the Forde Report) and her disgraceful treatment becomes more obvious.
It’s even more obvious still when compared to the instant exoneration of Labour right-winger Barry Sheerman after he apologised for sending an antisemitic Tweet.
How can a 'sorry, that wasn’t what I meant to say' apology be grounds for instant exoneration when it’s a white, male, Labour right-winger, but the same scenario results in an 11 month - and still ongoing - suspension when it’s a black, female, left-winger?
Perhaps the worst thing about it is that Labour are still apparently determined to drive Diane Abbott out of her parliamentary seat at the next election, which she will not be allowed to contest as a Labour MP if her seemingly-indefinite suspension continues.
Labour right-wingers are already circling like vultures hoping to get their behinds into a seat that Diane Abbott has turned into an absolutely super-safe Labour constituency, where the party got a whopping 70%+ of the vote share in the last two general elections.
If people do fall for Labour’s obscene grifting email and send the Labour Party donations, it seems highly likely that this cash will help fund an insidious Labour campaign to unseat the victim they of the racist abuse they couldn’t even bring themselves to name.
To be honest, I think describing her original article as "horrifically worded" is somewhat over egging the pudding and that's a bit careless, imo. Given the hoohaa about her being AS, that leads folk to think she wrote an article saying Jews eat Christian babies or something, whereas what she said, was at worst, insensitive, because the fact remains that more brown and black people have been murdered than Jews. Also, it's a matter of recorded fact that in recent years, it is those of us with brown skin that are primarily targeted by racists, so it's completely understandable that anyone brown might feel that we always get it worse. Plus it's observably also a fact that we don't have the same options to integrate and hide that the Roma or the Jews do. The spectacle of a black woman being forced to grovel for saying she thinks black folk have suffered more is frankly not something to be part of, imo. It's just more of the usual weaponised AS bullshit, ie politically self serving bollocks.
I'm not a Labout voter and don't have an opinion on Abbott. I do, however, have an opinion on the weaponisations of important issues by the predator class to keep us at each others throats.
That is absolutely awful. Grifting for donations from a death threat! How incredibly low.
