I am one of those disabled people who has had to rely on benefits to survive.

I had a rare childhood cancer that caused me to be disabled all my life, I applied for benefits when I realised I would never be well enough to work when I was 18.

The benefits system is a total nightmare. The endless forms, poking and prodding. Having to report every little thing and to have to explain the most embarrasing private things to total strangers to be judged as "worthy" or not.

Every single penny I get in benefits I have to spend on my existence, and to live an equitable life it simply is not enough. I have literally been sleeping wearing a woolly hat it is so cold but I cannot afford to put the heating on. I am so cold, every day, every night.

I can only afford to eat 2 meals a day and I have to ration water.

I'm socially isolated as I cannot afford to go anywhere outside my home and I can't afford to charge my electric wheelchair to get out and about.

It is a war on disabled people and many of us are terrified we are going to repeat the mistakes of Canada's MAiD program, where offering disabled people death is considered a good option.

Thank you for writing articles that bring this all to light, you give me hope.

Copying the Tories will not help Labour win the next election. Unfortunately, our political class are on the payroll of "free" market billionaires and vast swathes of the population gaslit by the Right wing media.

The benefits system is an absolute nightmare especially for people with disabilities. They have to go through inhuman processes to get the meagre benefits to start with and even if successful, against the odds, they live in constant fear of reviews and the whims of politicians who constantly change the rules to try to save money. It is a form of state terrorism to constantly target those who are unable to fight back and who are constantly demonised by politicians of all shades. Reeves is a monster who is creating more nightmares and should be thoroughly ashamed of herself. Those who let this happen and remain in the party formerly known as Labour will be judged for their compliance.

"most working people" don’t want to pay tax to subsidise people who are "not entitled to support". By which she also must mean the converse, that "most working people do want to subsidise wealthy people who avoid taxes".

Reeves is a capitalist. Labour is a capitalist party. Dress it up in any form you like ("liberal", "social democrat", "compassionate conservatives"), it is still capitalist and, therefore, the wealthy will never be satisfied and their governments will continue moving wealth and power to the wealthy until they reach the goal - fascism. In the UK, Labour has taken the last step to fascism, economically and politically.

It's worth pointing out that scapegoating those who are "not entitled to support" is a really dishonest way of framing her plans, since the government themselves are the people who get to decide what exactly needs are and aren't deserving of support. She's declared a cut to the budget, not an estimate of how much fraud she believes exists within the system as it currently is implemented - it's simply a way of putting the blame on claimants and portraying us as fraudsters rather than admitting she's saving money at our expense.

Disabled people are treated as a burden under capitalism, just as able-bodied people are treated like commodities to be exploited. The Labour party is treating us like useless eaters.

Labour? Sorry? Isn't it supposed to be socialist, at least to a degree...? And you're also criminalising people for supporting Palestine. WTF? Whilst GENOCIDE killed thousands of innocents. Focussing on and oppressing the most vulnerable in society is basically fascism. What next, concentration camps for the disabled and homosexuals? Ask Adolf Starmer. A Nazi officer, one day, visited Pablo Picasso in his atelier.

At the sight of the majestic Guernica, visibly impressed, he asked the painter:

- Did you make this horror, master? -

And Picasso, impassive, replied:

- No, it's your doing.

I can't think of anything more vile when the reality is that (tens of) thousands of disabled people are drowning in poverty and not receiving the PIP they desperately need. Absolutely everyone who has ever faced the PIP system or has disabled friends and family knows it's rigged to be deeply dehumanising. Pretty much everyone's claim is denied the first time and they need to go through a complaint process to have their claim reviewed. The claims are denied with the most malicious lies in reports, like stating that a person "has no issue with mobility" when the claimant reported that they can't leave their house and walk a few meters or stating that a person "has no problems with communication" when the claimant is having a panic attack and goes mute in front of the assessor. The lies are so severe it's ridiculous, like something from a very over the top comedy movie. The state does this on purpose, counting on disabled people not having the strength and agency to appeal the outcome.

But, but, of course the £8 billion has to be removed from the economic circulation - haven't you heard the state needs the money to send to Israel and other defenders of colonialism...

The answer to "why" is simple - because Rachel Reeves, together with her entire Labour ensemble, is a fascist. Labour thrive on singling out an enemy of the state and blaming every woe of the society on that enemy. Any similarity with what's happening over the pond or the ideas certain politicians developed in 1920's Germany is purely coincidental. It's a recipe for successful deflection from one's own accountability and true nature that's been proven over and over again. Meanwhile, mass media support the deflection by perpetuating the outdated 19th century political definitions of "left" and "right." There's absolutely nothing socialist about Labour, much like there's nothing democratic about American Democrats, it's just a label for the Tories to juggle in their own game of obfuscating the fascist uniparty system by singling out their own enemy.

So many of us have been saying the illusionary choice is between Blue Tories and Red Tories, and we were completely right. Yet in January '25 I still hear people desperately cling onto the lies of the system. The other day someone told me that Labour are a decent lot who are a bit stuck because they're forced to work with a trail of destruction left by the Tories. It's always someone else's point.

The bottomline is - the state is the enemy. It has always been the enemy, it will always be the enemy. The name of the ones who happen to run it is just a meaningless sticker.

This absolutely breaks my heart. I am disabled and receive PIP. I sent in my renewal application in early August. I had to phone the DWP last week to find out what was happening with it, especially as I need to renew my blue badge. The chap I spoke to was very friendly but he told me my renewal was in a backlog and hasn’t even been looked at yet.

Labour’s economic policies are supposed to be about growth. But they can plant the seeds but if they don’t tend to them they will die. During the Tory reign, I was starting to think they actually want us to die. Labour, apparently, is no different. They just seem intent on not scaring the horses (press, m/billionaires and big business) to actually make any meaningful changes to improve people’s lives. I really wish they’d prove me wrong.
