Rishi Sunak claims that Britain's nuclear capability is a cornerstone of our national security, but if this is really true how come our nuclear power is run by the governments of France and China?
Nuclear industry dereliction is bad enough. With a few worthy exceptions, UK's manufacturing base has been devolved to corporations and governments abroad virtually in its entirety. For Heaven's sake how is it economically viable to import dog poo bags from China? The only bases left for struggling GPD growth are service and financial sectors, some of which are already under threat. How on earth do we get out of this mess?
I am rather confused, was sunak talking about our Nuclear deterrent, which is owned by America or of out electricity supply base load system of nuclear generation, the newer power stations being built by the French and Chinese?
I thought it was clear that it's electric generation by nuclear reactors. I'm however, puzzled, surely one can trust the French not to cut the power, i.e., it's safe to trust the French to keep the power going. OTOH, I'm leery of having the Chinese running any power stations. Tho., I think Britain would have plenty of warning if there were to be problem with China. The only reason to have French nuclear is their proven experience. The majority of their electricity is nuclear!
France is doing pretty well from the idiotic British Tory mania of privatisation. The Parisian RATP now owns big chunks of what used to be (publicly owned) London Transport.
I’m not quite sure how many people understand the nuclear Armageddon that seems inevitable to me - not war, but a sharp rise in sea levels, where the majority of the planet’s nuclear power plants are, and the problem of 25-50yr decommissioning cycles for said nuclear power plants.
The oceans are going to be fine, in a 1,000 years they will anyway, when the few life forms that adapt to the acidic environment are proliferating and speciation is blossoming again.. what land remains will look radically different from what we know, and life on land will evolve quickly again in the aftermath of the Anthropocene. Will lizards rule the earth again? The next century will be very exciting though. What a time to be alive! Shame I’m going to miss most of it.

Apologies if this is "grandma's eggs" to anyone but the ONR is the go-to "independent" organisation for information regarding who owns/manages what
https://onr.org.uk/register-of-nuclear-site-licences/
They also deal with safety concerns, FOIs, new technology, international involvement etc.
https://www.onr.org.uk/about-us/contact-us/
No doubt their hands are tied by the government-speak for any responses but you'd hope their boffins have the final say.
