The political system is completely screwed now that accountability his been jettisoned in favour of neoliberal arse licking. Austerity is no different under Labour. But what is the alternative? I fear that Musk will win the next election 🥴

Which reminds me - is Musk the new Bannon? Not a question I expect anyone to have an answer to, I was just remembering Bannon's promotion of the far right every where and wondering.

He’s a Bannon with too much spare money. Bannon is almost irrelevant now, although he is still spouting vicious lies.

Labour have shown themselves as liars and they will pay for it at the next election. The Tory tribute act is not going down well.

Labour is deliberately setting up the far right to win the next election. 5th columnists.

If Sturmer reckons he's not made a single mistake since becoming PM then surely that means that all this was decided in advance?

Whatever they claim (& they do tend to remind me of Macron's lot), if they're *not* paving the way for Reform to take power then what exactly is their aim?

Great article btw!

So compensating WASPI women would not ne a good use of taxpayers money. However, putting up a lifeless statue of a dead woman who benefitted from the mother of all state handouts - the Sovereign Grant - is a good use of taxpayers money??? Go figure.

This shows the foundational.problem with electoral systems and the disempowerment that is the consequence of voting. This isn't new. Party breaks promises, sides with the wealthy. Never has this not been the case. Only system change will get us out of this, because this is a systemic problem. When ond person (e.g. Rachel Reeves) can make a decision (withdrawal of WFA) that affects millions, and will kill thousands, something is profoundly wrong. No one should have the power over another, and for one person to that amount of power is so egregiously perverse it staggers me that anyone can support such a system. We could always keep voting until we eventually get the right sort of people elected, but I don't think there's a peaceful route to a good enough life for everyone, something which is incompatible with centralisation, hierarchy and concentrated wealth. Millions are going to die at the hands of Westminster in the UK alone, and govts globally will kill many more. I can see no peaceful mechanism for positive change, for making govt act.
