French voters did what was necessary to keep the extreme-right Le Pen family cabal out of power, leading to an unexpected win for the brand new broad-left alliance.
The 'extreme-right' with a Muslim, brown skinned candidate for PM...? OK angry, sure, sure... It's not like all Western politics is fought over the centre, is it?
I'm behind Melanchon but this 'extreme right' dog whistling in the mockingbird media is utter nonsense. Next you'll be telling me that Keith and Nu2Labour and its ongoing austerity and pledge to war is of the 'left'...
According to Wikipedia... Or Geoffrey in Tooting... Certainly not la familie Bardella from St Denis from whence he sprang from his immigrant grandparents... Though he himself is self described 'agnostic'... Imagine.
He's of North African descent, it's as clear as the nose on his face, grandparents Italian/Algerian... Married LePen's daughter, apparently estranged... RN is dynastic. Not my bag, personally, but definitely not 'extreme right'... God save me from liberal women who always know better and usuallyl know nothing... Probably why the West is in such a state.
You said he is muslim and browned skinned: he just isn't, even if one of his four granparents may have been muslim the other three clearly are christian and he is white like LePen, you say nonsense, it's not me doing the liberal woman who always knows better, this time I know better because it's under everybody's eyes, it's not about "knowing". As for Wikipedia classifying him as "far right" wikipedia classifies every rightwing party as far-right, I haven't found one classifed as Rightwing without adding "far" before, they do like this, they think they trick people, lately they have sacked the ADL because they realise they're not honest in their assesments: they just call everybody fascist and white supremacist, like robots. Except maybe the Tories, but that's just respect for the money.
The hyperbole of you calling your others "extreme" or ""extreme rightwing" over and over again is just churlish. It makes you seem juvenile. Which is too bad as you write well.
Snap elections, provoked by fear of the extreme right, seem, in General, a good thing. Le Pen comes in a disappointonh(for her) third in Macron's sudden poll, Socialists won in Spain in Sanchez's sudren poll after Vox dif well in tehional elections, and Rishi's rushed poll has given us a Labour Government, strong LibDem presence - and 4 Greens!
Come on AAV, start looking for silver linings. Unrelieved rant can become tiresome!
Not surprising at all! Le Pen said she'd send all the immigrants back to where they came from. The immigrant population came out as never before to vote. I'm in France I saw the turnout.
The idea of "left coalitions" is a damn good one; the internal jostling and contention for power internally is both healthy and what politics should be like. Too many countries have forgotten that; including mine.
It's the way these struggles can be pursued that contains the toxicity; not the pursuit itself.

There are black and brown people who are supporters of right-wing and/or “far right” politics, you know.
Then I direct you to CNNs interview with LePen https://edition.cnn.com/2024/07/05/world/video/france-elections-marine-le-pen-amanpour-trump-politics
Or to their pledges/manifesto... https://rassemblementnational.fr/22-mesures

No, actually. No one who follows AAV thinks Starmer is on the left. Did you just join today?
Suella Braverman, Priti Patel both brown skinned, both extreme right imo.
Friends of Israel... Of course they are. You miss the point.
The RN is officially classed as extreme right according to Wikipedia. Which candidate are you referring to? Bardella isn't brown skinned or Muslim.
According to Wikipedia... Or Geoffrey in Tooting... Certainly not la familie Bardella from St Denis from whence he sprang from his immigrant grandparents... Though he himself is self described 'agnostic'... Imagine.
Bardella is not muslim and he is not brown skinned either, you're blind.
Photo of Bardella: https://freewordandfriendsworld.altervista.org/all-eyes-on-jordan-bardella-the-french-republican-wholl-be-prime-minister-if-lepen-becomes-president-from-pension-reform-to-expelling-the-dual-nationals-from-the-defense-department-its-going-to/
I mean if Bardella is browned skinned also Tucker Carlson is...
Oh, he looks white and acceptable... Apologies, my mistake... Or is that my point? Bet he tans well...

Great summary of the French election. I’ll be sharing this.
Thank you for a detailed explanation of the French election. I understand it.

Are you kidding? The "depraved family" that wanted to save France, poor Marine...
