Thank you ever so much to the 2,500+ people who have subscribed to the Another Angry Voice Substack in the first couple of days.
The first Substack post I put up wasn’t actually sent out to anybody because I didn’t have any subscribers, so this is the first one proper.
I know why I decided to diversify my social media platforms, and remove the censorious Facebook and Twitter algorithms from between myself and my audience, but I have to be honest with you and admit that I’m not exactly sure what I’m doing on here yet.
I know that the last thing I want to do is overload subscribers with a relentless barrage of emails, so I know for sure that when I am going to post things on here, it’s going to have to be high quality stuff that’s really worth reading.
After this Substack launch has gone so well in the first couple of day I’m feeling more optimistic and enthusiastic about my work than I have in ages, which is great.
I’m going to continue posting regularly on Facebook and Twitter because I’ve built up pretty huge audiences on those platforms, and it’s unrealistic to expect everyone to just instantly subscribe to my Substack.
I’ve been thinking that on here I should post a few high quality, well-researched articles per week (maybe just two or three) and then perhaps a weekly “newsletter” in which I go over some of the political events of the week, and include links to the last week or so of Facebook essays, infographics, Twitter threads, or whatever else I’ve been working on.
So the plan is for my Substack to be like an “inner circle” for my most engaged and enthusiastic readers, where I post my best content, while I continue as normal elsewhere.
I’m also thinking about cutting down the amount of time I spend wrecking my mental health on Twitter, to invest it diversifying onto another social media platform (probably Threads or Mastodon).
I’m clearly going to be learning as I go along, so feedback from subscribers will be welcome and important, because I want to do a good job for you guys.
Do you think a couple of Substack essays and a “newsletter” is the right approach for now?
Are there any particular subjects you’d like to see me write about on here?
Which other platform(s) would you like to see me diversify onto?
Do you have any other tips or suggestions?
Thanks,
Tom (Another Angry Voice)

Like a lot of people, I've given up on Twitter. I only continue on Facebook because the (elderly) left and Afghan friends are on there. I'm trying out Threads, and it's ok so far. I didn't like Mastodon, as the basic idea seems to be to create a load of siloes. The more we all speak to each other, regardless of political affiliation the better. Plus Mastodon is simply too teckie for most people. However, Threads promises (if we believe Zuckerberg) to become part of the 'fediverse' itself. I can't believe Meta would relinquish control in that way, but that's currently part of the road map.
I think your plan for Substack sounds good. I get a kind of summary from a number of people I follow on Substack, so that's always worth doing. Make sure you save your name on Threads before it goes (I couldn't find it in a search). Concise, verified, sourced and punchy is always good! Good luck to your elbow!
I highly appreciate the ideals & the quality of your writing. I have been following you on Facebook for a long time so, I do understand the frustration caused by its increasingly cencorious nature. Thank you.
