A chilling read of what has to me been one of the most horrifying periods of my existence. I no longer see the world the same way. I no longer trust the global systems of governance. I am in fact terrified of the direction in which we are travelling.
Don't worry, you are living through the safest, healthiest, and wealthiest time in human history. In my lifetime, for instance, the global extreme poverty rate has dropped from 41% to less than 9%. Globally, the chances of dying in conflicts are historically extremely low. The same is true for infant mortality, infectious diseases, education, and just about every other measure that is important. Almost all are moving in the right direction. It may feel terrifying, but the reality is that the last few decades have been the best ever in almost every way.
They are the only reason you'd make that comment. How about ask a women, or for that matter, a woman of color, in the south, how she thinks life is..
And..I don't know where you came up with those stats, but maternal mortality has gotten much worse in this country.
Authoritarian governments have increased. The global Temps are set to make life uninhabitable in many places, and this country you currently live is about to collapse. But yeah, things are great in suburbia I'll bet.
"this country you currently live is about to collapse" I'm interested in your evidence and augments for this statement. Maternal mortality stats to be found here https://ourworldindata.org/maternal-mortality. Finally, Tom from AAV is a white chap from Sheffield commenting on the Middle East - he is not Palestinian, Israeli, a Jew or Muslim. Using your logic he can have no view on the conflict?
Scott is correct. In the UK life expectancy has reduced due to a decade of political austerity followed by one of the largest wealth transfer in history (covid) followed by record increases in fuel and food costs alongside record profits for these industries. More have been pushed into poverty, more incomes are squeezed even further than before and many were already struggling due to our incomes not keeping up with inflation and the cost of housing. The younger generation do not stand a chance! So I do not share your optimisim and agree with Scott's first point..its totally relevant.
Your comment was global "I no longer trust the global systems of governance" and so my response was global. The Our World in Data stats were all worldwide. My point was simple, do not over worry. The last 30 to 40 years have been off the chart amazing in almost every way. Lots and lots to be positive about and we are not all buggered. Put it this way if you could pick I time to be born at a random location, right now would give you the best chances of survival, education, wealth and health. It is in this sense that we are literally living in the best of times. Apologise if I was not clear on Friday. All the best, Sam
This is a total Straw man. I was making a relatively tight point about how things have and are improving around the wold and I said nothing about Gaza at all. You have just arbitrarily decided my position on something that I never even mentioned - classic straw man. Oh well, back to work. Have a good day Sam
Fair point. But in the US things are not better for everyone financially. And the environment is suffering terribly on a global scale. I also read that the NHS is very short-funded in the UK. And so many refugees still wanting to come to our troubled country. Regulated capitalism or democratic socialism would benefit people and planet, not just the fat cats.
What is terrifying is not being sure of the direction in which we are travelling. However it's encouraging that more and more people are waking up and do not like what they see. Are we going to settle for the 1% being in control or do we want to make drastic changes to the way the world works? It's time to decide.
I read that most of Biden's senior gov officials are Jewish..... Is this widely known? Do we know if they're decent or Zionist biased? What's going on? Writing from Europe so not sure on these details.
The blowback from this will hopefully be the elimination of the apartheid state allowed because the global society fed into the ludicrous idea that some religion had "dibs" on a particular of the world. Like " manifest destiny", these abhorrent and inane religious exemptions for the theft of land need to be ended. It is the year 2024, and we have discovered so much, yet the world's religions will ALWAYS lead to division and ignorance.
could you add torture of medical staff and hospital directors, execution of doctors, patients(in their beds), execution of children on hospital grounds, bulldozing mass graves and graveyards,snipers and drones shooting children in the head, sing white phosphorus, bombing designated safe zones with 2000 pound bombs, routinely amputaions of captives?
We should never forget what Israel has done these last few months, and never forgive. Make Israel an international pariah forever. Their leaders are psychopathic mass murderers who see everyone else as human animals. Any of our leaders in the UK who support the terrorist state should be booted out of office for that reason alone, i.e. Sunak, Starmer and their hangers-on. Let's not forget who backs Israel financially, militarily and politically; the US. We should BDS the US wherever possible.
A fantastic, yet sickening and mind-numbing article! Many thanks for putting it together and backed up with facts.
However, you fail to mention the over 130+ outstanding UN Security council resolutions that Israel have not complied with, nor acknowledged; which are especially relevant to the Israeli operations to date.
Despite my dislike of the veracity of the platform (at times), here is a list from Wiki (purely for ease of access and the external links) regards the aforementioned UN-SCRs;
The things to remember regards Israel, is that the 'Nation' (sic!!) was formed by the use of Terrorism against the then legitimate (..?) UK Administration and forces. Then, backed up by an illegal and undeclared 'war' against the legitimate, indigenous population in a illegal landgrab, the Nakba.
During both of these phases of the creation of 'Israel', war crimes and atrocities were readily carried out, that make the events of 7th October '23 look somewhat insignificant by comparison.
For example, see the obliteration of the village of Tantura where the population was massacred, and dumped into a mass grave. Then the Israeli government denied it ever happened.
There has been an excellent film made of the event featuring testimony of the soldiers who performed the act, and drawing on notes and interviews made at the time;
""In January 2022, Alon Schwarz's film Tantura was shown at the 2022 Sundance Film Festival World Cinema Documentary Competition. In it, former Israeli soldiers admitted that a massacre took place in 1948 at Tantura. One former combat soldier stated: "They silenced it. The victims of the massacre were buried under what is today the Dor Beach parking lot, in an area measuring 35×4 meters.""
Lastly, as regards any legitimacy that Israel tries to cling to, with the increasing use of violence whilst the Zionist Colonial-Settler model starts to fail, can be summed up by the Jewish-Israeli activist, Ilan Pappé and his two quotes.
The first here from ** I was going to post a link to two sites that were showing the interview in full approximately six months ago; both URLs now fail..? Who'd have thunk it? ** Who said the internet isn't censored or controlled..? At least the quote is still up there; see below
""In a 2004 interview, when asked to reflect on Israel's oppression and wall of separation, Pappé said "The aim [of Zionists] has always been, and it still remains, to have as much of Palestine as possible with as few Palestinians in it as possible.""
The other, again unfortunately having to be drawn from Wiki (for now)
""In 2023, he described Israel as committing an "incremental genocide" of the Palestinian people.[34] During the 2023- Israel-Hamas war, Pappé reaffirmed his opposition to Zionism, writing that "this violence is not a new phenomenon," and called for a "de-zionised, liberated and democratic Palestine from the river to the sea."[35] He called for the Israeli government to conduct a prisoner exchange in order to release the hostages held by Hamas.[36] Pappé's comments following the 2023 Hamas attack on Israel drew criticism from The Telegraph and parts of the student body at the University of Exeter, namely in stating he had admiration for Hamas militants' courage and ability to take over military bases in Israel and rejected the claim that Hamas is a terrorist organisation, although he condemned the attack.""
Personally, I am sick to death, and sickened by the history of violence and aggression that Israel has demonstrated since its inception to the present day (literally!)
There either needs to be a very persistent and credible effort to negotiate a lasting peace settlement; or the World's nations need to wake up to the genuine genocidal threat to the Palestinian people and nation(?) and boycott Israel, much like how the world condemned South Africa during the Apartheid years and force Israel to come to the negotiating table.
I can't understand how people were moved to action over the Sharpsville massacre where 91 people were killed and 239 wounded (Britannica), yet when tens of thousands have been killed and many, many more civilians wounded, we as the people of the world and governments do absolutely nothing!?
Does this quote not apply;
"“To learn who rules over you, simply find out who you are not allowed to criticize,” attributed to a quote by Kevin Alfred Strom."" An 'alleged' white nationalist!?
NB So what does that make Netanyahu and his Cohorts and the IDF in the vast majority?
A chilling read of what has to me been one of the most horrifying periods of my existence. I no longer see the world the same way. I no longer trust the global systems of governance. I am in fact terrified of the direction in which we are travelling.

Tell me you're a middle class European American man, without telling me...
ad hominem - My sex and class are irrelevant to my point.

Our World In Data - https://ourworldindata.org/grapher/total-population-living-in-extreme-poverty-by-world-region is my go to for things like this. It is excellent and gives.

Nice, one resource is always solid information finding. You're not in the US I gather?
In what way would "my logic" prevent someone from having a view? I think you're confused.

I guess you're all on board for genocide funded by our tax dollars, pounds, euros.

If we choose not to settle what drastic changes should we be taking that will shift the balance of power?
We must stop voting for parties and politicians who are taking us down the WEF/WHO route to one world government.
I read that most of Biden's senior gov officials are Jewish..... Is this widely known? Do we know if they're decent or Zionist biased? What's going on? Writing from Europe so not sure on these details.
It's true, and they couldn't be any more pro-genocide Zionists than they are.

All true. All horrific. US government doesn't care. What more can we do? Nothing stops them. Not enough people are outraged.
