Keir Starmer doesn't get it
Starmer said he "gets it" after the dismal results started coming in, but then demonstrated he doesn't by cosying up to genocide profiteers, failing to admit errors, and promising more of the same!
As the calamitous results started coming in from the May elections, Keir Starmer decided to give a speech at the site of an Italian arms company that profits by selling weapons to the genocidal Israeli regime.
Labour has lost one of its safest parliamentary seats to the Faragists in a by-election, and it’s looking like they’ve taken a hammering in council elections across swathes of England too.
Starmer could have decided to indicate his repentance for letting ordinary people down so badly in his first year in power by giving a speech in a school, a hospital, a working class community, or pretty much anywhere except the weapons factory of Leonardo genocide profiteers that he chose.
Instead of the howling vortex of condemnation you’d have expected if a left or centre-left Labour leader like Corbyn or Miliband had lost a safe Labour seat to the extreme-right, the Guardian is treating Starmer with kid gloves, and printing his lamentable excuses without criticism.
In December, Starmer proved his bone-headed aversion to reality by saying that he couldn’t think of a single thing he’d done wrong in his first six months in power, and he’s still refusing to budge, even in the face of these diabolical election results.
He’s so insistent that he’s right and the public are wrong, that he’s still vehemently defending his almost universally unpopular decision to mug pensioners!
Starmer now says that he "gets it", and that the public want Labour to go "further and faster on the change".
This is beyond absurd given that Labour voters turned their backs on the party in their droves after they ran their failed local election campaign on the surreal and deceptive propaganda narrative of presenting their turgid "more of the same" agenda as "change".
Traditional Labour voters don’t want a Labour government that economically sanctions millions of pensioners, disabled people, and children into destitution, whilst retaining the lavish handouts and tax advantages of the mega-rich.
They don’t want a Labour government that continues Tory austerity ruination, when the economy is crying out for sensible investment economics to reverse the economic stagnation of the last decade and a half.
They don’t want a Labour government that sides with greedy energy and water profiteers against ordinary people, small businesses, and the environment.
They don’t want a Labour government that peddles the same right-wing "trickle down" economic lies as the Tories.
They don’t want a Labour leader who signals his continued support for Israeli genocide by visiting a bunch of genocide profiteers, when he should surely be trying to reach out to the traditional Labour voters and communities he’s disappointed and alienated.
And they don’t want a lying politician who responds to shocking election defeats by brazenly continuing to pretend that his unpopular and unappealing "more of the same" agenda represents "change", and that the lesson he "gets" from such dismal results is to keep doing exactly what he he’s been doing to drive so many voters away!
Clearly Keir Starmer still doesn’t "get it" at all. And after this belligerent and unrepentant performance, it seems highly unlikely that he ever will.
I wish people would look to anyone other than reform for this though. Independents, greens, heck I would prefer LibDems and I was AT university during the student "riots".
Imo it's a stitch up. Labour knew this would happen. It now gives them an excuse to go harder and faster with cuts and privatisation, their real goal. They're not interested in being in power in the long term, only on getting rich quick. They were bought and paid for.
