Labour fire up the propaganda cannons to cover their retreat from pensioner sanctions
Labour are trying to defend their retreat from Rachel Reeves' pensioner sanctions with another rolling barrage of propaganda lies
The government has finally provided a bit more detail on their humiliating Winter Fuel backtrack, but they’re insisting on a rolling barrage of propaganda lies to provide cover for their strategic retreat.
Apparently they’re going to raise the income threshold to somewhere around 30 to 35 thousand per year, which means around 75% of pensioners will receive winter fuel payments.
The cost of this adjustment is projected to reduce the projected savings from around £1.5 billion per year, to just £0.45 billion, but there’s another factor to add in too, which is the rise in poorer pensioners who have been claiming the Pension Credit they’re entitled to, as a result of Labour’s WFA changes.
Poor people claiming what they’re have a right to claim is a good thing, but the increased levels of Pension Credit payments further reduce the savings from Rachel Reeves’ WFA changes to below £0.25 billion.
To put this figure into perspective, the government has just announced plans to splurge a whopping £14.2 billion to bankroll the Sizewell C nuclear reactor.
It’s extraordinary that the government has decided to inflict so much political pain and humiliation on itself via a policy which is going to end up with an annual saving that amounts to less than 2% of what they’re willing to splurge on a single white elephant of an infrastructure project.
At the time Labour were implementing their WFA pensioner sanctions, ministers made lurid hyperbolic claims that there would have been an "economic crash" and a "run on the pound" if they hadn’t pinched the winter fuel payments from pensioners living on as little as £11,000 per year.
These claims of imminent economic Armageddon were always absolute bollocks, because Starmer easily found another £3 billion to give to Zelenskyy at the same time he was allowing Rachel Reeves to mug British pensioners.
How did he manage to gift Zelenskyy twice what he was taking from British pensioners, if the UK economy was teetering on the edge of collapse?
Their propaganda efforts were absurd in attack, and now they’re just as bad in retreat.
They say they’re not reversing three quarters of the way back on their economic sanctions on pensioners because the British public absolutely hated it, no way!
Neither we’re they forced into retreat because their pensioner mugging policy created a gaping hole in their left flank for Farage to try and exploit by claiming he’d reverse their WFA cuts.
Apparently they’re retreating on their pensioner assault because the economy is on a "firmer footing" since last year!
In reality the OBR has halved the UK’s projected GDP growth rate since last year; the Trump tariffs have exacerbated the Brexit economic sanctions we’ve applied on ourselves; unemployment is up; job vacancies are down; energy prices are still insanely high; and the number of salaried workers across the UK economy has actually been falling.
So we’re supposed to just forget about the looming danger of economic collapse now that the government is backtracking on the policy that they claimed was necessary to avoid a "run on the pound", because Labour ministers have loaded their propaganda cannons with a new bunch of lies about how well the economy is doing.
Who are the target audience for this latest heavy bombardment of propaganda lies?
Who actually believes that the economy has improved so dramatically in the space of a year?
And wouldn’t it make more sense for Starmer’s minions to just admit that they made a mistake in allowing Rachel Reeves to economically sanction millions of pensioners, whilst she steadfastly refused to scrap tax breaks and handouts for corporations, city speculators, and the mega-rich?
The problem is that dishonesty has always been Starmer’s modus operandi, ever since he brazenly lied his way into the Labour leadership in 2020.
Why would a party leadership that was founded on dishonesty and deception suddenly come clean, admit that they made a mistake, and apologise, when they can try to gaslight the British public into believing that they’re retreating on pensioner sanctions because we’ve gone from the brink of economic collapse last year to economic party time now, even when loads of economic indicators point to the fact that things are still getting worse?
The whole policy of sanctioning pensioners was a self-inflicted PR disaster from the beginning, especially in light of the relatively minuscule savings such an unpopular policy had to offer.
What makes it even worse is the way their catastrophic charge into political no-mans land, and this humiliating retreat from public opinion, have both been conducted under the heavy bombardment of absurd propaganda lies.
It's just as well I follow you on Substack, because Facebook has suspended my account until I make a video selfie to convince a software algorithm that I am not a robot;- "Confirm your identity with a video selfie
To make sure that you're a real person, we need you to record a video selfie. We'll ask you to move your head during the recording to help us capture your face at different angles".
There is no chance of me doing such a thing, so goodbye Facebook.
They chat nonsense, they say whatever they need, to justify whatever agenda they are pushing at the time, but they get away with it, because of a compliant media, owned by the same people who always benefit, Politicians, from all parties, are just a corrupt bunch of Charlatans, they stopped working for us years ago, and take orders from a different master these days, ive lost interest, Voting is a total waste of time under FPTP, we only have an illusion of Democracy anyway, they throw us a few crumbs every few years, to make us think we actually have a say
