Emmanuel Macron relied on the extreme-right Le Pen family cabal to lock the winning left-green coalition out of power, but his minority government has collapsed in the space of just three months
No. This is what happens when you ignore the actual result of an election you didn't have to call and install an unelected right wing government who try to 'pass' a terrible budget using 49.3 (again).
Not as if they weren't warned.
Well done the NFP (collective left) for bringing the much deserved motion de censure & fair enough the RN for voting for it.
The "centre" (left or right) will always opt for the right when faced with the only other option being a true left/socialist alternative. The "centre" is still capitalist and, often, white supremacist, and capitalism, even "compassionate capitalism", needs to keep workers under control and divisions between white people and the "others".
It’s yet another round of vote centre, get right. Happens every single time the shitheads fall for the old pragmatic lesser evil crap. I don’t understand why they keep falling for it.
At least when it comes to the next election, French people ought to understand that a vote for macron is a vote for le pen.
It's not the fault of the French people. The Left/Green coalition won the election.
Macron called that snap-election, and then when the French people voted for something Macron didn't like, he BETRAYED the French people; he plotted with the far-right to circumvent the results of the election that he called.
The French people did their part. The problem is that Macron — like Biden, Starmer, and probably Trudeau — would rather aid & abet a fascist take-over of his country, than allow DEMOCRACY to result in leftists, being allowed to provide legitimate representation to the PEOPLE.
Yeah, I agree - but he was only in the position to do that because a significant number of voters bought his lesser evil argument. Now that it can be seen that he will ally with the right rather than the left, hopefully fewer people will buy him as opposition to the right.
Macron once compared himself to a Greek god - his temper tantrums are escatly in keeping with rampant ego and power. Writing from France, I agree that he ignored the results of an election he never needed to call with awful consequences and his tantrum brought this about. Yes -- well done NFP for calling the vote of no confidence and I'd expect the RN to jump ship and stab him in the back -- who did he imagine he was dealing with? -- but don't think this invalidates anything you've written. He thought he could deal with the devil to lock out the left and guess what...? Now the people get to live in his unholy mess with the right gaining even more "credibility" :(
Imagine if Macron hadn't undermined democracy. Imagine if the French electorate had been allowed to see its will enacted.
Who knows what influence a left-leaning France could have had. Who knows how much of a malign influence it was — on Europe, and "the West" more broadly — for Macron, Maureen & Michel to demonstrate how easily fascists could suppress a duly elected government, in an ostensibly-serious country.

No wonder Macron went to Saudi Arabia. No doubt he's more popular there.

Forgive me, i’m struggling to stifle a belly-laugh. Merde! lol
Marine is possibly what France needs.
